beginning with last Monday picking up Sister Grant has been so
charged. She's had a whirlwind of a first week but we've assured her
that life in Lyon is not always this crazy, but it's still this great
:)
Tuesday Sister Shields, who finished her mission this past transfer,
came to see us with her family and we were able to spend a little time
at lunch together. They were so cute! They're from North Carolina so
that slight southern twang was a familiar sound haha. Seeing them
order food reminded me of our family's trip to Germany all together
several years ago--kids everywhere, trying our best to speak the weird
language, natives eying us skeptically and fleeing us like the plague.
Haha it was so great.
Thursday we had Thanksgiving at the Browns. 😊😊😊😊 It was arguably
the best thanksgiving I've ever had. She needed us to come help her
cook earlier in the day so we went over there and she took us on a
shopping trip! The six of us girls went out and bought all the stuff
to decorate the tables with. Also lots of chocolate. Afterwards she
took us to MacDo because she insisted we needed to have a snack before
the meal and even though it's fast food, "it's more fun that way."
Haha it was just like the usual errand run with mom. We left them for
a bit to go to a rdv with a cool elderly couple that has started to
read the Book of Mormon. It's awesome because most elderly couples
here that are well off and have food relationships with their family
are usually not interested in the gospel because they're either
die-hard Catholic or consider themselves too old to care at that
point. But they have a sincere desire to learn and find out the truth!
We're excited to keep working with them. The thanksgiving meal was a
blast--so many missionaries ended up being there and all the office
couples and everyone cooks so well and oh man. It was just the best
thing. We really are so blessed to have wonderful people on this
mission with us.
Last night we had thanksgiving round 2 at the Zinn's house. It was
super fun! A few other American families in Lyon were invited
including all the missionaries in our ward and the other one, so
Allison was there too. It was a great time! We ate way too much food
and hung out with Americans.
Our amie nelly is struggling right now. We haven't seen her in two
weeks because she's been in Paris for a training, and it's really
taken a toll on her progress. She's losing hope and faith fast and
doesn't know if she even trusts us anymore. We're going to see her
tomorrow, hopefully, and help her out of this funk. Other than that,
the work has been pretty slow and hard with the rules we have about
being out late. Most of our amis live in very sketchy neighborhoods
where we can't go, so we're trying to find other ways to meet with
them in daylight.
One of the reasons it's been so busy here is president has been giving
us projects. He wants us to do a musical number for the leadership
conference tomorrow, singing the First Noel, and he wants violin. We
don't have an arrangement sooo were figuring it out on our own. It's
tomorrow and I'm still not ready so I'll try out my improv haha. He
also called us the other day to describe in great detail this grand
art project he wants completed for the Christmas conference. No
pressure or anything, Sister Hurd. He told me that the Lord wants
this, and that it should be fun, and that I shouldn't lose sleep over
it. He must have been inspired to say that haha.
It's December tomorrow! When did that happen?? The time is FLYING BY.
I love this mission too much. Je vous aime!
